SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Truman State Women's basketball was defeated 96-88 by No. 5 Ashland University in their first game of the Drury Thanksgiving Classic.
The first half favored the Eagles 58-41, who shot 14-22 from three and 21-34 from the field. Truman and Ashland traded leads before the Eagles pulled away with five minutes left in the half. Ashland went on a 9-2 run to finish the half when they were leading 35-33.
Hannah Belanger led the Bulldogs in first half scoring with 13, Emma Bulman also had double-digits with 10, and Alex Fanning put up 9 points.
Truman went on a 15-3 run from the 2:34 mark of the third quarter to 7:57 in the fourth to make it a 75-69 Ashland lead. The Eagles were up 21 in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs came back to make it a single-digit game.
The Bulldogs were unable to complete the comeback, as Ashland pulled kept their lead and won by eight.
Hannah Belanger led Truman in scoring with 25 points, followed by Ellie Weltha and Alex Fanning with 19 each. Emma Bulman put up 12 points as well.
