LAKELAND, Fla. - Truman State Women's basketball defeated Florida Southern College 81-64 in the Bulldogs' first game of the Florida Southern Christmas Classic.
Hannah Belanger scored her 1500th point in the game, a feat done by only four other Bulldogs in program history. She sits at 1511 points and fifth most all-time, 16 shy of Truman legend Amy Eagan's total of 1527.
Truman went into the half up by four points, but went on a tear in the third quarter. The Bulldogs shot 64.7% from the field in the third with five 3-pointers, taking a 26-point lead going into the final quarter. The Truman defense stifled the Mocs, holding them to 4-16 shooting and allowing only one 3-pointer in the third.
The Bulldogs won by 17, with Hannah Belanger leading the way with 25 points on 9-16 shooting along with four 3-pointers. Belanger added four rebounds, an assist, and three steals in the contest. She scored 20-points or more for the eighth time this season.
Ellie Weltha also reached 20 points on an efficient 8-11 shooting. She grabbed 16 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
Gracie Stugart tallied double-digit points, scoring 10 with five assists. Alex Fanning pulled down 11 rebounds in the game, scoring six points as well.
Truman plays Eckerd College tomorrow at noon (ET) in their final game of the Florida Southern Christmas Classic.
