Bulldog Track & Field Complete Indoor Regular Season At Grinnell/Pittsburg State

GRINNELL, Iowa - In their final meet before conference, the Truman Track & Field team turned in top finishes at the Darren Young Invitational at Grinnell College on Saturday. Sophie Oxandale took top honors in the women's 400 and Grace Feeney placed second  in the 60 meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump.

Oxandale ran a season-best 59:93 to claim the prize in the women's 400 and won the event by a full second over Central College's Abbi Roerdink. Kendall Dascher was eighth.

Feeney had a busy day with a second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.75, a fifth in the long jump at 4.95m, 11th in the high jump at clearing 1.54 meters and ran the second leg of the distance medley relay team that placed second at a season-best time of 13:23.44. Other members of that relay were Addie Mathis, Molly Bies and Cora Stimpson.

Mathis nearly claimed the women's mile run but ended up second. Mathis ran a team-best 5:27.25 but lost out by .04 hundredths of a second by Graceland's Keagan Perkins.

Other silver medals went to Brendan Baker in the weight throw (17.91m), Kelly Hoskins in the men's triple jump (12.63m), the women's 4x200 team of Cassidy Boord, Kristen Poole, Alayna Pipkin and Oxandale, the women's 4x400 team of Board, Natalie Smith, Oxandale and Pipkin and the men's DMR of Andrew Henton, Jake Higgs, Nathan Key and Thomas Cormier

Hoskins also finished third in the pole vault clearing 4.15 meters.

On Friday, throwers Jacob Morris and Bobby Campbell competed in the men's weight throw at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic in Kansas. Morris had just one legal throw, his first, and placed third in the event behind a pair of Missouri Southern throwers. Morris' toss went 18.47 meters. Campbell was 11th with a mark of 17.30 meters.

The Bulldogs will take next weekend off as they will prepare to join their conference cohorts at the Great Lakes Valley Conference meet in the traditional spot of Indianapolis, Indiana. The GLVC Championship will be contested February 26-27 and will be streamed for free on the GLVC Sports Network.
