BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Truman State Bulldogs were dealt a 75-52 defeat at the hands of Southwest Baptist University on Thursday night. Ellie Weltha led Truman with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday for the final regular season game at Rockhurst University.
Truman (17-9; 13-5 GLVC) led 22-21 midway through the second period but the Bearcats (15-12; 10-9 GLVC) ran off a 10-3 run to close the half and led 31-25.
The Bulldogs got it back to within one at 35-34 in the third but again SBU was able to withstand the push and countered with a 12-2 run and took their largest lead thus far at 47-36 late in the third quarter.
Things got away from Truman in the fourth as the Bearcats connected on 10-of-15 shot attempts while Truman was 4-of-15 and was outscored 26-13 down the stretch.
Three SBU players finished in double figures led by both Kyleigh Vaught and Kelsey Blakemore with 16 points and Mary Rose Foster's 12.
Truman was 18-of-56 (32%) and only 2-of-20 from three (10%) on the evening. Since their 10 game winning streak in January, the Bulldogs are 4-4 heading into the regular season finale.
Tip-off time in Kansas City on Saturday will be 1:00 p.m.
