Rockhurst Slips Past Truman State Women With Second Half Burst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a solid first half, the Truman State Women's Basketball team saw Rockhurst's Daly Sullivan catch fire and the Hawks downed the Bulldogs 72-68 in the regular season finale on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (17-10; 13-6 GLVC) will host a Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament first round game on Monday evening at 5:15 p.m. The opponent will be determined later on Saturday and announced via the conference office.

Truman was flying high in the first half as they connected on eight three pointers and built up a 14-point lead at 46-32. Ellie Weltha had 18 points and nine rebounds at the break.

Sullivan took control out of the locker room for Rockhurst (15-11; 11-9 GLVC), she would score eight points in the first three minutes of the third and brought the Hawks back to within two at 48-46.

Gracie Stugart stemmed the tide for the Bulldogs as a three-point play then knocked down a pair of triples and Truman went back out by eight at 57-49.

Sullivan started the fourth by giving Rockhurst the lead at 62-61 with a driving layup. Molly Hummel put the Hawks up three with 7:52 to go at 66-63.

Both teams suffered a five-plus minute scoring drought that was finally broken by Keegan Sullivan with 2:22 to go to put the Hawks up 68-63.

Katey Klucking got to the free throw line with under a minute to play and made just one of two to bring Truman to within two at 70-68 but Keegan Sullivan stuck a dagger with a jumper with 15 ticks remaining to push it back to a two possession game.

Truman would miss on a trio of three pointers and time later expired as the Bulldogs drop consecutive conference games for the first time this season.

Weltha matched her career high with 26 points and was one off her career mark in rebounds with 18. Allison Thomas tied her career boards mark with 13.

The Sullivan sisters combine for 36 points with Daly scoring 23 and Keegan 13. Hummel added 13 as well. Rockhurst only committed three turnovers on the game while Truman lost possession 15 times.
