KANSAS CITY—The Truman Men's Basketball team closed out the regular season with a loss at Rockhurst Saturday afternoon 84-78, which dashed any hope the Bulldogs had of being the number one seed in the GLVC Tournament. Cade McKnight had his first double-double since the Elite Eight game last year against Flagler with 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Hawks.
The first half was close to begin with, as the score was tied at 19 with 9:14 left in the half. From there Truman went on a run that helped them build the 13 point advantage they would have going into the locker room. A 12-2 run over the next four minutes put Truman up 31-21, which included two separate three point plays from Elijah Hazekamp and Dylan Peeters. At the 2:19 mark Rockhurst cut the Truman lead down to 33-30, but an 11-1 run to end the half put Truman ahead 44-31 at the break; including a buzzer beating layup from Hunter Strait to McKnight in transition.
While Truman began the second half with the lead, they could not build it any higher than 13 as Rockhurst chipped away and with 11:59 left in the half it was a tie game at 51. Masen Miller made a jumper in the paint to put Truman back in the lead, and they held Rockhurst off for the next few minutes but with 7:43 to go the Hawks took their first lead of the half at 60-59. Truman answered with baskets from Peeters and Hazekamp but with 5:56 to go Rockhurst grabbed the lead and would not relinquish it the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs will be hosting a GLVC Tournament game Monday night at 7:30 in Pershing Arena.
