Second Half Outburst Allows Bulldogs To Ground Flyers

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Truman State women scored 26 points in the third quarter on 9-of-12 shooting and went on a 16-3 run to ground the Lewis Flyers 74-61 for their eighth straight road victory. Hannah Belanger led all scorers with 20 points.

Truman (15-6; 11-2 GLVC) led 27-25 at half then blitzed Lewis and outscored the Flyers 26-17 to take control of the game. Truman shot 75% in the third quarter with a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-6 from the free throw line to go up 53-42 after three quarters.

The Bulldogs got the lead up to 20 in the fourth and put it on cruise control the rest of the way.

Belanger was 9-of-15 from the field and added five rebounds and three steals. Ellie Weltha recorded her 20th career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Katey Klucking and Gracie Stugart each added 10.

Maddie Re scored eight and added seven rebounds to move into Truman's top 10 in career boards. She now has 602 rebounds and passed Jennifer Fisher in the process.

Truman dominated the glass and kept the Flyers to mostly a "one-and-done" offense. The Bulldogs grabbed 44 total boards and 34 on the defensive end while the Flyers grabbed just 22 rebounds.

Kathryn Schmidt led Lewis (5-12; 3-6 GLVC) with 14 points.

The Bulldogs complete the season sweep over Lewis and now have won four straight against the Flyers.

Truman will move down Interstate 65 to Indianapolis for a Saturday matinee against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds. UINDY had their Thursday game against William Jewell pushed back a day to Friday due to weather.
