ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Truman State Softball team could not generate enough offense on Sunday as they dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Lindenwood by scores of 7-1 and 5-1.
Truman will play conference games at home next weekend when they welcome Southern Indiana and McKendree on Saturday and Sunday.
Game 1: Lindenwood 7, Truman State 1
The Bulldogs could not dig themselves out of an early hole as Lindenwood score a run in the first and added three in the second.
Truman cut the deficit to 4-1 in the fourth when Ellie Weltha raced home on a wild pitch with the bases loaded but Truman left a pair on in the frame.
The Lions added two in the fifth off a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded walk.Â
A single to center would score the final run of the game in the sixth.Â
Game 2: Lindenwood 5, Truman State 1
Lindenwood scored their first four runs on extra base hits as the completed the sweep over the Bulldogs 5-1 in the finale.
Back-to-back doubles in the first gave the Lions and early 2-0 lead.
Emma Walbert tried to tie the game in the third. With two outs, Walbert sliced a ball to left field that got past the diving left fielder and went to the fence. Kayla Quanstrum scored easily from second but Walbert rounded third and headed home, the relay throw to the plate was on the dot and Walbert was tagged out trying for the inside-the-park home run.Â
Lindenwood used that momentum and got a two-run homer from Whitney Wendel and an RBI single from Lauren Pelton to extend their lead out to the eventual final 5-1.
