ROLLA, Mo. – The Truman State Track & Field teams moved outdoors for the Miner Invitational on Saturday.
Thomas Cormier and
Jacob Morris were the event winners for the Bulldogs.
Cormier took first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:21.98. Other men's team scorers on the oval were
Nathan Key and
Grant Lair in the 800. Key was fourth in 1:59.47 and Lair took eighth in 2:00.31.
Truman's national indoor qualifier,
Jacob Morris, was the victor on the men's Discus with a throw of 49.72 while
Bobby Campbell turned in the fifth best throw at 41.89.
Morris and Campbell also placed in both the Javelin and Hammer Throws. Campbell was second in the javelin at 54.45 meters while Morris was fifth (49.87m). In the Hammer, roles were reversed with Morris taking the silver at 55.23m and Campbell finishing fourth at 53.36.
The women's outdoor qualifier from last season,
Natalie Telep made her debut and placed second in the Javelin. Telep's best mark was her first at 38.78 meters. She led the event after the first three throws but Lewis' Natasha Bernett clipped her on the first throws of the finals with a distance of 39.78 meters.
Lily Ende brought home a second place finish in the 5000-meter run. Ende ran 19:07.59 for the silver.
Kirsten Poole added a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles as she bested her career fastest time with a 1:08.69 clocking. Her previous best was 1:10.01 at the Truman Twilight Meet last April. Poole also ran a PR 16.91 in the 100-meter hurdles and placed fifth, just in front of teammate
Grace Feeney.
Those two ran the final two legs of the 4x100 relay that placed third. Joining them with a time of 52.10 was
Brianna Barton and
Cassidy Boord. The 4x400 relay team of Boord,
Natalie Smith,
Sophie Oxandale and
Alayna Pipkin was second with a time of 4:11.75.
Both teams placed fourth in the team standings with the women scoring 80 points and the men 60.
Next on the schedule will be three events in three different locations. The Central Methodist University meet will take place Friday and Saturday as will the Southwest Baptist Invitational. The distance runners will head to Washington University in St. Louis for the annual Distance Carnival on Friday night.
