KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team got its second straight win Tuesday as they downed William Jewell 13-3. Jordan Marlott (1-0) made the midweek start and picked up his first career win as he threw six innings and allowed just three runs and picked up four strikeouts, while Levi Ebersoldt (0-2) took the loss. Luke Turner went 4-4 with two home runs to spur the Bulldogs offense.
The Cardinals got on the board with two solo home runs in the top of the first inning, but Marlott was able to get out of a jam and left two Cardinals on base to limit the damage in the first inning. Turner came up second in the bottom of the first and sent a long ball to center field that drifted over the fence.
In the bottom of the second, Truman struck for three more as Dylan Thompson led off with a single to left, then a single by Dakota Spicer followed. Sam Smith moved the runners with a sac bunt, followed by a single by Simon Murray to tie the game up. Turner came up a second time with two outs and then singled into center, driving in Spicer and Murray to put Truman up 4-2.
Truman struck for four in the bottom of the third as Holden Missey reached on a hit batsman and then Jack Darwin doubled to move Missey to third. After a fielder's choice and a walk the bases were loaded for Smith. Smith walked to bring in a run to make it 5-2 and then a wild pitch brought Thompson in from third to make it 6-2. Murray singled through the right side to bring in two runs and make it 8-2.
Turner homered for a second time to lead off the fourth and make it 9-2. WJC answered in the top of the fifth with a run to make it 9-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Truman struck again for four runs. Starting with a single from Turner, Brennan Perkins walked and then Missey singled to load the bases. Darwin tripled deep down the right field line for a three run triple. Darwin then scored on a pass ball. Cole Eggerding relieved Marlott in the top of the seventh and got a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game.
Truman will be back in action this weekend as they host the Indianapolis Greyhounds in a four game set starting on Friday at 3:00.
