ST. LOUIS—The Truman Baseball team dropped two Saturday to the Maryville Saints Saturday after winning 15-3 in the series opener Friday. In game one Maryville won 6-2 as Ryan Louck (1-2) picked up the win and
Connor McKenna (1-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs. In game two
Michael Daggett fell to 0-4 on the season for Truman while Nolan Miller (2-0) picked up the win.
Game One
Truman nearly struck first in the top of the first inning as
Brennan Perkins got a two out double to center, followed by a
Holden Missey single to center but Perkins was thrown out at home. Maryville got a two run homer in the bottom of the first and then another two run homer in the bottom of the second to go up 4-0.
Truman struck for two in the top of the third as three straight runners walked, which brought Perkins to the plate. He singled to left center field to bring
Simon Murray and
Tal Dean into score. With the score 4-2, Maryville got one run in the bottom of the third and then one more in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring in a seven inning game.
Game Two
Maryville struck first again in game two, with homers in each of the first two innings—a solo shot in the first and two run jack in the second. Truman had threatened in the top of the second, but stranded two runners in scoring position. But in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs would strike.
Dylan Thompson started the inning with a single to right center, and
Dakota Spicer followed with a homer to make it 3-2. With
Tal Dean on first,
Luke Turner reached on an error and moved to third on the play as Dean came in to score and even up the game. Perkins came up next and doubled to center to bring Turner in and give the Bulldogs the lead 4-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, a bases loaded triple cleared the bases and gave Maryville back the lead at 6-4.
Will Fromm led off the top of the fifth with a solo shot that brought Truman within one. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, a hit batter brought in a run for Maryville to put them back up two at 7-5.
Simon Murray then made his way to the mound for the first time and got the last out of the inning to strand three runners. Truman had one last chance in the top of the seventh, and with two outs Thompson homered to draw Truman within one but a groundout ended the game immediately after.
Truman will try to even the series tomorrow in the final game of the four game set, which starts at 11 am.
