SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—The Truman Baseball team got a split with GLVC Blue leading Illinois Springfield on Saturday as they took game one of the four game set 4-3 in ten innings, while falling 11-0 in game two. In game one Zachry Schneider pitched another gem with eight innings and only two runs (one earned). But he did not get a decision. Holden Missey (3-1) got the win while Brendan Anderson (1-1) took the loss. In Game two Colton Hale (9-1) got the win while Connor McKenna (3-7) took the loss. But with five strikeouts his career total went to 178, now the highest in Bulldog history.
In game one, Missey got the Bulldogs on the board first with a solo shot in the second inning. Scheneider did not allow the Prairie Stars to get on the board until the fifth, when the leadoff man reached on an error and then advanced to third base. After an RBI groundout brought the runner in to tie the game, UIS got back to back singles but a flyout and a groundout ended the threat and kept the game tied at one.
In the top of the eighth Brennan Perkins led off with a triple through the right side and then came in to score as Missey followed with a double the same direction to make it 2-1. Will Fromm followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Though Dakota Spicer grounded into a double play, he brought Missey in to score to make it 3-1.
UIS got a run in the bottom of the eighth and then one more in the bottom of the ninth to tie it up and send it to extras. Fromm led off the top of the tenth with a solo homer that proved to be the game winner. Missey got a second inning of work in the bottom of the tenth and he got two outs before allowing back to back singles that put runners on the corners. But he struck out the next batter to win the game.
In game two, McKenna threw four innings and got five strikeouts. In his last start as a Bulldog he passed Brant Kraner's career mark of 174 career K's, reaching 178. But the Truman bats could not get anything going.
Tomorrow will be the season finale for the Bulldogs, as they will play a doubleheader with the Prairie Stars—once more starting at noon.
