KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - A late third quarter push by the Truman State Women's Basketball team enabled them to go past the Rockhurst Hawks and win 75-62 in Pershing Arena on Saturday afternoon. Hannah Belanger moved into third place on the all-time scoring list as she poured in a game-high 25 points on seven three-pointers.
Rockhurst had an early 10-point lead in the first quarter and the teams exchanged the lead nine times with eight lead changes until the score was tied at 43 in the third quarter. Gracie Stugart connected on a pair of free throws to put Truman in front and later in the quarter, Claire Rake tracked down a long rebound and hoisted up a triple that hit bottoms as the Bulldogs led 50-43 at the end of the third.
The Bulldogs kept the Hawks at arms' length in the fourth and grabbed their double-digit lead on again free throws by Stugart. The guard finished with eight points and dished out eight assists on the day.
Belanger was 9-of-16 from the field with seven from outside to move past Felica Sutton on the Truman all-time career scoring list for third place. Her 25 points on the day give her 1,597 for her career.
Ellie Weltha was on a milestone watch as well as she scored 20 points and added nine rebounds on the afternoon. Weltha will head into Monday's game three points shy of 1,000 for her career.Â
Truman knocked down 12 three-pointers on the afternoon.
Rockhurst was led by Keegan Sullivan's 16 points.
The Bulldogs will look to avenge their only conference loss to date this season when they host Southwest Baptist at 5:15 on Monday.Â
