KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Ellie Weltha reached the 1000-point milestone and Truman State Women's basketball avenged their loss to SBU earlier in the season, winning 70-64 on Monday night. Truman State lost to SBU 72-59 on December 10th, Truman's lone conference loss.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats kept trading punches, with each team giving up and retaking leads throughout the game. The score was tied at 36 at the end of the first half. There were 30 lead changes by the end of the contest.
SBU led 58-57 with 5:39 left in the 4th quarter, but Ellie Weltha scored two layups shortly after to give Truman a 61-58 lead with 3:59 left. The Bearcats made some shots to make it a 66-64 Truman lead with 1:15 left. Gracie Stugart hit four clutch free throws to give Truman the four-point win.
Weltha scored 20 points in her historic game, complimented by 10 rebounds and an assist. It was her seventh double-double of the season.
Alex Fanning had her second-best scoring game of the season, putting up 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Hannah Belanger had another double-digit game with 15 points. She also added seven boards and a steal.
Truman State plays at Missouri S&T on Thursday, January 19th at 5:30 p.m., and at Drury on Saturday, January 21st, at 1 p.m.
