KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Men's basketball took a loss in their first regular season game against Findlay 82-69 in Pershing Arena.
The game was the second of the GLVC/G-MAC challenge, and the Bulldogs held a 10-point lead going into the half. Truman was up by 17 at one point in the first-half.
The Oilers slowly cut into the Truman lead, and finally took it with 15:40 left in the game with a score of 45-43.
A Landon Eiland layup with 2:17 remaining cut the Oilers lead to two, but Findlay was able to pull away on free throws and win by 13.
Freshmen Matt Haefner and Kobi Williams led Truman in scoring with 15 and 14. Trey Shearer also had double-digit points with 12, and Landon Eiland had nine. Xavier Hall, Brennan Lovette, Casen Lawrence, Joe Knutson, and Blaise Porter all tallied scores.
Haefner, Williams, and Hall each had a team-high five rebounds, and Casen Lawrence was one behind with four.
Xavier Hall had the most assists on the team with six, the next closest Bulldogs were Kobi Williams and Trey Shearer with three each.
Truman shot 43.5% from the field as a team, and 36.0% from three. The Bulldogs went 6-8 on free throws.
Truman plays Cedarville tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. to finish up play in the GLVC/G-MAC Challenge.
