BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The Truman State Softball team left their opening weekend with a 2-2 record after getting the bats going in the finale with an 11-2 victory over host Arkansas at Monticello. The Bulldogs will be back in action, indoors, at the Rosemont Dome Invitational on Thursday near Chicago.
Game 1:Â
Northeastern State 2, Truman State 0
A pair of runs in the fourth inning stood up as the Northeastern State held the Bulldogs to just one hit in a 2-0 loss in the day's opening game. The RiverHawks got a leadoff home run to start the inning then took advantage of a Truman miscue to plate a second run in the frame.
Lauren Stade collected the hit but Truman could not take advantage of the four walks issued by NSU.
Game 2:
Truman State 11, Arkansas at Monticello 2
Truman manufactured a run to start the game as Cassie Smith drew a walk, stole second and raced home on a groundout to stake the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Alivia Daniels singled up the middle and came around to score on an error by the third baseman.Â
Alex Beard picked up the big hit in the fifth as she drove in Maddi McCarty and Smith on a line drive up the middle.Â
In the sixth, Callie Unrein had an RBI double to bring in Emily Eberwine, then two scored on a fielders choice from McCarty. Smith scored two more runs 9-0. Cameryn Patterson knocked in Smith on a double and Eberwine had a ground out RBI to give Truman an 11-0 lead.Â
Monticello scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and had the bases loaded but before Mya McCubbin coxed a ground ball to end the game.Â
Annabel Zimmer pitched the first five innings and allowed only two hits while fanning five to get the win.
