LEBANON, Ill. - Truman State Men's basketball lost a heartbreaker to McKendree, falling 90-88 in overtime.
McKendree jumped out to a 28-18 lead with 8:30 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs managed to fight their way back and trail 41-39 going into the half.
Truman State took their first lead of the game with 12:39 left in the game off a Dylan Peeters made a free throw after he made a layup while fouled. There were seven lead changes the rest of the second half, and the two teams went into overtime tied at 79-79.Â
In overtime, Truman went up 85-79 with 3:18 left. McKendree took the lead back off a Caleb Zurliene jumper, up 88-87 with 1:12 remaining in overtime. Hunter Strait hit a free throw with 0:26 left to tie the ballgame. Zurliene hit a fadeaway jumpshot in the paint with 0:02 left in overtime to give McKendree the win over Truman.
Truman shot 14-33 (42.42%) from the field, and 5-13 (38.46%) from three.
Dylan Peeters and Elijah Hazekamp each recorded double-doubles in the game. Peeters had 24 points, 12 rebounds and a steal. Hazekamp put up 20 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists.
Xavier Hall and Hunter Strait had double-digit scoring games as well. Hall scored 19 points and Strait had 11.
McKendree's Caleb Zurliene had a great performance on top of his game-winning shot. He scored 33 points, grabbed 12 boards, and had five blocks.
Truman State is 10-13 on the season and 5-10 in the GLVC.
