INDIANAPOLIS - Junior Jacob Morris was named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the week for the 2023 season after posting a school record 58.37 meter mark in the Discus event on Saturday at the Miner Invitational in Rolla, Missouri.
Morris' mark ranks 24th on the all-time Division II list for the Discus throw and third all-time on the GLVC performance list. Only Randy Heisler from the University of Indianapolis had longer tosses in the Discus, coming back in 1983 and 1984.Â
His mark broke his own school record, set last season, is currently atop the Division II performance list and is the second best throw in DII over the past two years.
Morris placed second in the Hammer, third in the Shot and sixth in the Javelin in the other events competed in over the weekend.
This is his second outdoor athlete of the week award for this career (March 21, 2021) and goes with his four previous indoor awards, two coming earlier this academic year.Â
