SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Truman Baseball team fought uphill most of the afternoon and suffered a 12-7 to the Drury Panthers on Sunday. The Bulldogs will be in St. Louis to face Maryville University for a four-game series starting on Friday.
Tal Dean led off the game drawing a walk and later scored on an infield single by Kevin Donohue to stake the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead.
Drury started their half of the frame on a bang with a lead off single and a pair of doubles to quickly take the lead 2-1. They would go on to score nine times on six hits during the inning and take a commanding 9-1 lead after one.
Will Fromm hit a one-out double. Grant Beck, having his 22-game hitting streak snapped on Saturday, got a base knock to put runners at the corners. Dean brought in a run with a fielding error and Luke Turner doubled to score two more to make it 9-4.
The Panthers grabbed two runs right back in the bottom of the second.
Fromm doubled in Donohue in the third but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded.
The pitching settled in and neither team dented the plate until the eighth. Alex Wittenauer walked and later scored on an RBI groundout by Simon Murray. However, Drury snatched the run back in the bottom of the inning.
Holden Missey extended his Truman career doubles record with one in the ninth that brought Turner in from first base. It was Missey's 47th career double and also his 120th career RBI, tying him for third on that career chart.
Fromm went 3-for-4 and Turner and Donohue each collected a pair of hits.
