KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Tennis team wrapped up their 2022-23 season and bid farewell to a pair of key contributors in a 6-1 loss to William Jewell on Monday.
Julia Fangman and
Kennidy Shirey combine to win over 45 singles matches and 30 doubles in their three seasons on the squad.
It was
Akansha Negi and
Allie Brown that got the Bulldogs off to a good start in doubles with a 7-5 win in the number one spot. Fangman and Shirey lost by a break-point 6-4 at number two while
Calli Hepfinger and
Abbi Worster dropped a 6-2 decision at number three giving Jewell the 1-0 lead out of doubles.
The Cardinals took the first three singles matches while at number four, Fangman dueled with Maisie Markowitz. After dropping the first set 6-2, Fangman took set two by the same score but lost in the tie breaker 7-3.
Shirey dropped both of her sets by a break-point each, falling 6-4, 6-4 in each at number five.
The lone singles win came from Truman's top player during the season in freshman
Sydney Dial. Dial won in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 at number six to pick up her 15
th singles win of the season. She finished her campaign with a record of 15-7 and 9-4 in doubles.
The Bulldogs conclude their season with an 11-11 overall record.
