CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Holden Missey became Truman's all-time leader in home runs after the first game of two against Maryville on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs and Saints split the games, with Truman taking game one 7-5 and Maryville winning game two 17-3.
Game One:
The scoring started in the third inning when Simon Murray hit a solo home run to right field. Missey mashed his 34th career bomb in the same inning, with a solo jack to right.
Maryville hit a homer in the sixth to make it a 2-1 game, but the Bulldogs drove in five in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-2. Luke Turner hit a three-RBI double, Dylan Thompson hit an RBI single, and Kevin Donohue hit another RBI single.
Maryville had a valiant comeback effort in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs held on for the victory.
Luke Turner and Holden Missey both went 2-4, with Turner driving in three and Missey hitting his record home run.
Tal Dean, Dylan Thompson, Kevin Donohue, Will Fromm, Grant Beck, and Simon Murray all had a hit. Murray had an RBI from his home run, and Thompson and Donohue drove in a run as well.
Missey had a great game on the mound as well, throwing 6.0 innings with one run allowed. He struck out one batter and allowed five hits.
Game Two:
The Bulldogs jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first with a Dylan Thompson and Jack Darwin RBI single, and Thompson scoring on a Dakota Spicer groundout.
The Saints 17 runs in a row in the first, fourth, and fifth innings to make it 17-3.
Seven Bulldogs recorded hits, with Thompson, Darwin, and Spicer driving in runs.
Truman plays game four tomorrow against the Saints at noon.
