Bulldogs Win In Extras To Halve Doubleheader With Rival Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. - Cassie Smith's ninth inning single scored Madi McCarty to break a 2-2 tie and the Truman State Softball team earned a split with Quincy after the Hawks grabbed the opener 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Quincy took a 1-0 lead in the first as a leadoff double came around to score.

Mackenzie West and Alex Beard hit one-out singles in the fourth and advanced up on a wild pitch. Cameryn Patterson brought in West with a single to left and Breianna Klein drove in Beard going to right field with an RBI single.

An RBI double in the fifth knotted the game at two and the Bulldogs escaped a bases loaded situation in the sixth when a fly out to right ended the inning.

McCarty pinch hit and lead off the ninth with a single and advanced on a sac bunt from Alivia Daniels. Smith picked up her third hit of the game, driving the ball to right allowing the speedy McCarty to race around and touch home.

Annabel Zimmer tossed all nine innings for Truman to pick up the win.

In the opener, Klein started and helped her own cause with a solo home run in the second to put Truman on top.

The Hawks tied the game in the fourth then scored five times on five hits in the fifth to break it open.

The Bulldogs will split their weekend as they close out the season coming up. They will face Rockhurst University on Saturday in Kansas City before returning home to face William Jewell on Sunday for Senior Day.
