BOLIVAR, Mo. - Sam Newton's blast early in the first half and Corbin Clay along with Jack Knust added second half insurance goals in the Truman State Men Soccer's 3-0 win over Southwest Baptist on Friday.
Newton corralled a loose ball about 20-yards out in the ninth minute and rocketed a shot that beat the SBU keeper in the top of the net to open the scoring. Luke Payne assisted on the goal and it was the second score of the year for Newton.
The Bulldogs held that advantage with Justin Olwig stopping both SBU shots en route to the shutout.
Corbin Clay scored an insurance goal in the 78th minute that was assisted by Landon Keisker.Â
A few minutes later, less than four to be precise, Knust put one in off a feed by Payne into the high right corner that gave the Bulldogs their 3-0 lead.
Truman State peppered 16 total shots with 11 finding the net while SBU managed eight shots, with just the two on goal.
The Bulldogs will take their 4-2 overall record and 3-1 GLVC record to Springfield for a date with Drury on Sunday afternoon.Â
