Rockhurst Snaps Bulldog Volleyball's Winning Streak

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Rockhurst won a crucial third set by a 26-24 score and went on to defeat the Truman State Volleyball team 3-1 snapping the Bulldogs five-match winning streak. Michaela Goad led the Bulldogs with a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.

The Bulldogs play at Missouri-St. Louis and McKendree next weekend.

The Hawks stormed out to an 8-1 start and led 15-3 in set one before the Bulldogs nearly clawed all the way back. Leading 22-14, the Bulldogs scored six straight points and forced the Hawks to burn both timeouts as the set score went to 22-20. Out of the second timeout, a service error halted the momentum momentarily as a pair of attack errors made the set score 23-22 in favor of Rockhurst.

It took two set points before the Hawks prevailed 25-23.

The Bulldogs again trailed 15-11 in set two before rattling off four straight points and finally overtaking the Hawks with three more points to go up 19-17. Truman took set two by getting five of the last six points to win 25-20.

Set three turned into the difference maker. The Bulldogs forged ahead leading 11-4 and were up 17-13 at the midway point. The Hawks knotted the set at 19 before the teams exchanged points until Rockhurst grabbed a 24-22 advantage. Makayla Way had a kill and joined Hannah Hosty for a block to force extra points in the set. Rockhurst was able to score the 25th and 26th points to close out the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The teams battled back and forth in set four to start before a six-point run by Rockhurst gave them a 13-7 lead. They would continue the push and down the Bulldogs 25-11 to win the match.

Jessie Julius added 10 kills.

The Bulldogs had 18 blocks on the night with six assists from Hosty and five from Autumn Erickson.

Rockhurst had eight blocks and eight service aces and were led with three players with double-digit kills. Tera Reberry had 14, Sarah Pyle had 13 and Chloe Terrell added 11.
