CHICAGO—The Truman State Swimming teams competed in the Phoenix Classic, a midseason meet hosted by the University of Chicago, this past weekend. Over the course of the three-day meet, the Bulldogs posted their best times of the season.
Emily Traube was the silver medalist in all three individual events she swam in. She was second in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle swims with season-best times in each. She went 23.15 in the 50, 50.11 in the 100 and 1:49.63 in the 200, all three are NCAA Division II B-cut times.
Meg Heveroh brought home the only first place finish for the team with a gold medal in the meet's endurance race the 1650-free. Heveroh swam 16:55.86 earning an NCAA B-cut time. She was sixth in the 500-free with a time of 4:57.79 to also pick up a B-cut mark.
Jahmia Harley earned a third-place and a fifth-place finish in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Harley swam season-best times in each with a 56.71 in the 100 and 2:05.37 in the 200.
Kylie Strobl was right behind Harley in the 100 and finished in a dead-heat tie for fourth place with a time of 57.64.
Other Bulldogs to make the A-Finals were
Chloe Myers in the 100 breast, placing 6
th, Sydney Durbin in the 200 fly, placing 10
th and
Sophie Ragsdell in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 10
th. All times were season-best marks.
In the relays, Harley, Myers, Strobl and Traube finished clocked 1:36.74 in the 200 free. Harley, Myers, Heveroh and Traube finished in 3:53.25 in the 400 medley. Harley, Myers, Heveroh and Strobl were fourth with a time of 1:46.26 in the 200 medley. Heveroh, Strobl, Durbin and Traube went 7:36.33 in the 800 free and Heveroh, Strobl,
Layla Walker and Traube finished in 3:30.82 in the 400 free.
The Truman State women scored 527.5 points to place fourth out of seven schools.
A.J. Kohler picked up his second B-cut of the season and was in the A Finals in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. His B-cut came in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.51. he was sixth in the 100 free (45.75) and ninth in the 50 free (21.00).
Miles McIntyre made two A Finals, both in the butterfly swims. He was ninth in the 100 with a time of 49.77 and 10
th in the 200 1:57.05. His prelim time in the 200 was a season-best at 1:56.12.
Evan Grinter and Jacob Wolf both made A Finals in the backstroke. Grinter swam 51.47 in the prelims and 52.38 in the 100 final to place ninth and Wolf won the B-final in the 100 with a time of 51.52. Wolf was ninth in the 200 A Final timing 1:53.15.
Thirteen other Bulldogs made B Finals during the weekend with Micah Ragsell swimming in three. He was 20
th in the 200 IM, 12
th and 14th respectively in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
In the men's relays,
Drake Durbin, Grinter,
Cameron Lee and Kohler swam 1:22.91 in the 200 free.
Dawson Behl, Ragsdell, Lee and Kohler went 3:24.70 in the 400 medley. Wolf, Ragsdell, McIntyre, and Lee timed 1:33.10 in the 200 medley.
Nicholas Richter,
Colin Wolfmeyer,
Gavin Bergmann and Kohler swam 6:59.73 in the 800 free and Wolfmeyer, Durbin, Lee and Kohler went 3:04.93 in the 400 free.
The men scored 411 points to finish fourth as a team out of seven schools.
The Bulldogs will return to competition on January 11
th, hosting William Jewell in a dual meet.
