Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Three-Pointers Down Truman State Women Against Arkansas Fort Smith

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A late heartbreak for the Truman State Women's Basketball team as they fall in the waning seconds to Arkansas Fort Smith 75-73 at the Drury (Mo.) Thanksgiving Classic on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs fought back from an eight-point deficit at 53-45 midway through the third quarter and tied the game at 57 each on Molly Joyce's three-pointer at the 8:22 mark of the fourth.

The Lions maintained a small advantage until Joyce scored five straight to give the Bulldogs a 67-66 lead with 1:54 to play.

Truman State held the lead with free throws by Joyce and Jordan Cunningham but a three-pointer by Anna Trusty with 43 seconds remaining pushed Fort Smith back on top 72-71.

Cunningham delivered a clutch hoop on Truman State's next possession as the Bulldogs leapfrogged over at 73-72 with 24 ticks showing.

Following a timeout, Zyniah Thomas missed a close range shot but the rebound went out of bounds off a Bulldog. The inbounds pass went to the far baseline to Hannah Boyett, and she drained the three-pointer which proved to be the winning bucket with nine seconds left. It was Boyett's first three of the day after eight straight misses from outside.

Truman State had one more attempt but the tying shot was smothered up and time expired.

Joyce topped 30 points for the second time this season making eight field goals, four from distance and finishing 10-of-12 from the line. Cunningham tallied 15 and Bryar Duwe chipped in 11.

Truman State attempted 36 three-pointers on the afternoon over 50% of their field goal attempts.

The Bulldogs will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference action at home on Saturday afternoon hosting Rockhurst at 1 p.m.
