KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State women's basketball team began their Great Lakes Valley Conference journey with an 82-64 win over Rockhurst (Mo.) University on Saturday.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a cold shooting third quarter by the Hawks to extend a four-point halftime lead at 45-41 out to a 20-point margin at 69-49. The Hawks made just three field goals in the quarter while Truman was 8-of-15.
Rockhurst closed the gap to 10 points on a pair of occasions in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs got the stops they needed down the stretch and pull out the win.
Cunningham finished one off her season-high with 25 points while Molly Joyce added 18.
Truman State will play two league games next week starting at Southwest Baptist on Thursday evening and continuing to Drury in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday afternoon.
