Truman State Women's basketball kicks off the athletic events for this week with Maryville and Missouri S&T coming to Pershing Arena on Thursday and Saturday. The Bulldogs play the Maryville Saints at 5:15 p.m. and the Missouri S&T Miners at 1 p.m.

Truman State picked up a huge 79-72 win against Indianapolis on Saturday, February 10th, on the road. The victory was their sixth overall and third in conference play. Maddie Niemeier led Truman in scoring with 18 and eight rebounds. Ellie Weltha was right behind with 17 points and another seven rebounds. Claire Rake, Gracie Neff, and Emma Bulman also scored double-digit points in the win.

Maryville is 13-9 thus far and 10-6 in GLVC competition. Carsyn Fearday is their leading scorer, averaging 14.0 points per game which is good for 13th in the conference. Antoinette Mussorici is not far behind at 13.5 PPG. 

The Miners of Missouri S&T is 6-18 overall and 3-13 in the GLVC. They are currently on a three-game losing streak and their last win came on January 13th. The Miners last played Maryville where they fell 67-40. Katelynne Roberts leads the team in scoring and is third in the conference in points per game with 16.9.

Truman State Men's basketball is coming into this week riding a four-game win streak after defeating GLVC No. 1 Indianapolis 85-76 on the road. The Bulldogs also defeated Lewis, UMSL, and McKendree in this week streak.

Against UINDY, Trey Shearer and Kobi Williams both had 20+ points. Shearer had 22 and Williams had 20 points. Landon Eiland led in rebounds with seven and Xavier Hall had a team-high five assists.

Truman State is now 11-11 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Bulldogs are now tied for fifth in the GLVC with Lewis.

This week, Truman takes on Maryville and Missouri S&T on Thursday and Saturday. Maryville is an even 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the GLVC. Their leading scorer is Noah Courtney, who scores 13.0 points per game. Luke Williams (11.6) and Dewayne Vass (10.6) both average double-digits points.

Missouri S&T is 12-9 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Their last game was an 82-65 win over Maryville. The Miners' leading scorer is Ikenna Okeke, who averages 14.3 PPG which is good for 15th in the GLVC. Lovell Williams and Julien Smith are both top-25 in scoring within the conference.

Truman State track and field compete in the Hilltop Classic, their final competition before the GLVC Indoor Championships. The Hilltop Classic will be hosted by Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill.

Last week, the Truman State bulldogs took part in the Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State University. Jacob Morris exceeded the 20-meter mark in the men's weight throw on Friday as his fifth toss of the event flew 20.34 meters breaking his own school record from earlier this year. Morris' best prior was 19.92 meters. He finished second overall and sits ninth in the NCAA Division II performance list. After waiting 18 years to break the women's 4000-meter distance medley relay record last season, it was nearly a year to the date as the relay team did it again. Lexy Henrikson, Kendall Dascher, Raina Baker and Addie Mathis ran 11:59.99 to break the record for the second year in a row. Henrikson and Mathis were on last year's record-setting team at 12:00.18. That time was an NCAA provisional mark and is 29th in Division II and second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Baker set a PR on Saturday in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.44. She was one of seven women and four men to achieve personal best at the meet. McKenna Ledgerwood ran 11:03.53 and Kate Yates ran 10:39.62 for bests in the 3000-meter run. Cora Stimpson ran 18:17.80 in the 5000-meter run. Audrey Gilmore posted 10.02 in the 60-meter hurdles. Lydia Lehmbeck ran 2:21.57 in the 800 and Destiny Zimdars tossed the weight 15.08 meters for a PR. In addition to Morris' PR and school record in the weight, Tyler Davis set a best in the Shot Put at 15.51 meters. Brycen Compton ran 1:58.15 in the 800 and Jake Gutzman broke the nine-minute barrier at 8:58.72 in the 3000-meter run.

Truman State baseball looks to bounce back after a winless series at Northwestern Oklahoma State University last week.

The Bulldogs had some promising performances from new and returning faces. Freshman Dakota Joggerst leads the team in average (.417), runs (3), and is tied in hits (5). Tal Dean picked up where he left off, hitting .385 with a .962 OPS. Will Fromm (.364), Dylan Thompson (.357), and freshman Oliver Degenhardt (.333) are also hitting over .300 through four games. Dylan Thompson has Truman's only home run so far.

Zachry Schneider had a solid first outing, throwing 7.0 innings. He allowed four runs with three being earned along with four strikeouts and one walk.

This week, Truman State plays Washburn and Regis University in the Washburn Classic in Topeka, Kansas.

Truman State softball is coming off a 2-3 start to their 2024 season, beating Central Missouri 6-3 and Northeastern (Okla.) State 18-17 in the Alvy Memorial Tournament.

This week, the Bulldogs play Winona State twice on Sunday before taking on Southwest Minnesota State on Monday of next week.

Cassie Smith is off to a blazing start, hitting .533 with a 1.200 OPS, five runs, eight hits, two doubles, and five RBI in 15 at-bats. Emily Wood is also hitting great with a .471 average and a team-high 12 total bases. Cameryn Patterson is third in average at .353 and freshman Charlotte Chelich is hitting .308.
