Two Silvers & Two Records Fall For Truman State Track & Field On Day One Of GLVC

Live Results

INDIANAPOLIS - Two school records fell and two silver medals so far for the Truman State Track & Field teams at the Great Lakes Valley Conference indoor championships on Saturday evening. Jacob Morris was second in the weight throw and broke his own school record and for the second time this season the women's distance medley team of Lexy Henrikson, Kendall Dascher, Raina Baker and Addie Mathis broke their record with a second place showing.

In the DMR, the Bulldogs, Southwest Baptist and Lewis all exchanged the lead at some point during the race and the three schools paced each other around the track leaving the rest of the team in their tracks. Mathis was at the heels of the Lewis runner in the final laps and as they made the final turn home, lapped traffic made for some difficult navigation for the leaders. By the finish line, Southwest Baptist had claimed the gold with Mathis crossing for the team in 11:57.11 and second place. The previous record was 11:59.99.

The Bulldog men's 10 team points came in the weight throw as Jacob Morris broke his own school record again and Leithym Messer crushed a personal best mark in the event. Morris broke his record of 20.34 meters in the fifth round of throws with a mark of 20.55 but that wasn't the end. In his sixth and final toss, Morris busted a throw of 20.79 meters and finished second to Lewis' Levi Graham at 20.93 meters. That mark moved Morris up on the NCAA Provisional list to sixth so far.

Messer's previous best was 15.64 and after two straight rounds over 16 meters, Messer set a new PR with 17.79 in his fifth attempt. He finished seventh.

In finals on the men's side, Kelly Hoskins was ninth in the pole vault (4.26 meters) and set a PR in the long jump with a leap of 6.29 meters. Jacob Gutzman and Ryan Harness set PRs in the 5000-meter run. Harness ran 15:45.68 and Gutzman paced 15:49.33.

Hayden Long will have three more events in the men's heptathlon on Sunday. He is sitting in second position after accumulating 2,612 points in four events on Saturday. He had a PR in the long jump at 6.54 meters and finished second in the shot put and third in the 60-meter dash. He is 37 points behind the leader with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run left.

Vada Moore set PRs in four of the five events in the women's pentathlon on Saturday. She also set a season-high in points scored with 2328. Her PRs came in the 60-hurdles (10.58), high jump (1.40 meters), shot put (7.83 meters) and the 800-meter run (3:02.27).

Audrey Gilmore broke the 10-second barrier in the 60-meter hurdles as she went 9.99 in her preliminary round.
