Late Push By Quincy Lifts Hawks Over Bulldogs On Senior Day

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - In a game of runs, it was the Quincy Hawks that had the final big push in their 92-89 victory over the Truman State Women on Senior Day in Pershing Arena.

The Bulldogs were up 78-77 with under five minutes left to play but a three-pointer by Mikayla Huffine pushed Quincy ahead for good. Big hoops from Ashlynn Arnsman, one a banked in shot from the free throw line and another a baseline 15-footer gave the Hawks some cushion at at 86-82.

Truman missed their next three field goal attempts and Quincy made them pay at the free throw line down the stretch.

Quincy led early at 29-25, finishing the first quarter on a 10-0 run. The Bulldogs responded in the second and pushed ahead 45-41 at half behind 14 points from Ellie Weltha. Truman maintained that lead at the end of the third with a 65-62 advantage.

Weltha finished with her second consecutive 20-point game of the week with 25 and added seven rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Molly Joyce added 19 points and seven rebounds, Madison Niemeier scored 16 with eight rebounds and eight assists and Claire Rake tallied 14 with six boards.

Huffine finished with 20 points for the Hawks, who completed the season sweep of the Bulldogs.

Truman will finish the regular season on the road with stops at Southwest Baptist on Thursday and Drury on Saturday.
