Bulldogs Score 13 Unanswered Runs To Win Series

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State baseball team defeated McKendree 13-5 on Monday to win the series.

With both teams hitless through three innings, McKendree broke the game open in the fourth by scoring three runs. The Bearcats added another run to make it a 4-0 game in the fifth.

Dylan Thompson was walked with the bases loaded to give Truman their first run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bulldogs exploded offensively in the seventh inning, scoring seven runs to take an 8-4 lead. Oliver Degenhardt singled and a throwing error brought Oliver Degenhardt across the plate, Dylan Thompson hit an RBI single, Luke Turner scored on a fielder's choice, and Kevin Donohue hit a three-run homer.

Truman scored five more in the eighth to go up nine. Dylan Thompson hit another RBI single, Degenhardt scored on a wild pitch, Dakota Joggerst hit an RBI double, and Tyler Tieman drove Joggerst in with a single to right field.

McKendree hit a home run in the ninth but Truman held on for the win.

Degenhardt, Thompson, Joggerst, Turner, and Colin Mueth all had multi-hit games.

Thompson and Kevin Donohue led the team in RBI with three each. The pair also got walked two times.

Donohue and Mueth both swiped a bag in the contest.

Zachry Schneider started the game for the Bulldogs, throwing 5.0 innings with just one earned run. He struck out two, walked none, and allowed five hits.

Alex Leary took home the win after throwing 2.0 innings of shutout ball.

Brian Bruxvoort threw the eighth inning, striking out a batter and allowing a hit in his four batters faced.

Justin Maloney took Truman to the finish line in the ninth, facing five batters and allowing one run.
