PELLA, Iowa – Truman State Track & Field competed at the Central (Iowa) College Dutch Invitational on Thursday in Pella.
Jacob Morris won both the Discus and Hammer Throw events and was third in the Javelin while
Kelly Hoskins took second in the Pole Vault.
It is a split squad weekend with the distance runners competing on Friday at the Washington University Distance Carnival in St. Louis.
Morris dominated the field of nearly 50 competitors in the Discus with a winning throw of 55.42 meters with second place mustering on 44.56 meters.
Tyler Davis was fifth with a toss of 43.00 meters.
The margin of victory was closer in the Hammer with Morris busting a throw of 59.75 meters to second place Chris Wren of Concordia (Neb.) mark of 57.61 meters.
In the Javelin, Morris was third at 51.58 meters and
Hayden Long took fifth at 49.53 meters.
Over in the Pole Vault, Hoskins cleared 4.15 meters on his second attempt and then 4.30 meters on his first attempt as three vaulters were left. Hoskins could not clear 4.45 meters, which is his career best. He placed second in the event with his first attempt clearance over 4.30 earning him the silver medal.
On the track,
Cooper Doolin had two top five places. He was fourth in the 100-meter dash at 11.09 and fifth in the 200 meter dash at 22.85.
Esme Aubuchon and
Audrey Gilmore had the top finishes for the women during the meet. Aubuchon leaped over 1.50 meters on her second try in the High Jump but could not pass 1.55 meters for sixth position.
Gilmore's first attempt in the Triple Jump was a personal best as she cleared 9.88 meters and also placed sixth. Gilmore had a second PR on the day in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.76 seconds.
Maddy Hall had PRs in the 100 and 200 meter dashes along with the Long Jump.
Vada Moore had bests in the Long Jump and Shot Put and
Hailey Derboven set a new standard in the Triple Jump.
Jackson Figo set PRs in all four throwing disciplines. Figo went 12.11 in the Shot, 39.92 in the Discus, 40.28 in the Hammer and 38.96 in the Javelin.
Tyler Davis had PRs in both the Hammer and Javelin.
Alex Long matched his best in the 100-meter dash and
Hayden Long crushed his PR in the 110 hurdles going from 19.41 to 16.70 seconds.
Next up for the Bulldogs will be a home meet next Friday at Stokes Stadium. The Bulldogs will host the Truman Invitational with the Discus taking place on Thursday at 2 p.m. other field events start on Friday at 11 a.m. and track events at 1 p.m.
