KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The first day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Track & Field Championships saw
Jacob Morris return to the podium in the first of his four events for the meet.
Soggy, rainy conditions persisted throughout the day but Morris was able to place third in the Hammer Throw with his first toss flying 59.51 meters. Missouri S&T's Jacob Luebbert won the event with a GLVC and Stokes Stadium record of 68.83 meters.
Leithym Messer was ninth for Truman with a personal best, 50.26 meters.
Hayden Long sits in sixth position through the first five events of the Decathlon. He had a time of 11.64 in the 100-meter dash, leaped 6.19 meters in the Long Jump, a mark of 11.07 meters in the Shot Put, cleared 1.74 meters in the High Jump, and ran 55.37 in the 400-meter dash.
One other meet/stadium record fell on day one with Indianapolis' Zoe Pentecost blasting the women's record in the Hammer Throw. She had three throws over 62 meters with her last going 62.74. Truman's
Elaina Gorton had a personal best of 42.13 and finished fourth while
Destiny Zimdars threw 44.51 and was 12
th.
In the only scoring event on the track,
Cora Stimpson scored a team point with a seventh-place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run. Stimpson completed the 25-lap race in a personal best 37:40.02.
Friday will feature a full day beginning at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the multis. The field events will begin at 1 p.m. and running will start at 3:45 p.m.
