INDIANAPOLIS – The Truman State Women's Indoor Track & Field team accumulated 114 points and were picked seventh in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll that was released on Wednesday by the league office.
The Bulldogs trailed Maryville and Missouri S&T, who each had 139 points to tie for fifth place and were ahead of Drury University (105 points) for the eighth spot. Defending indoor champion Lewis University was the choice on 12 of the 15 coaches and garnered 194 points to be selected first in the survey. Indianapolis and Southwest Baptist were second and third respectively.
Truman State finished sixth at the Indoor Championships last February with 31 points scored.
Three of the four members of the Distance Medley relay team return that finished with the silver medal in the event last year at conference. They are graduate students
Addie Mathis and
Lexy Henrikson along with junior
Raina Baker. Those three along with former Bulldog
Kendall Dascher placed sixth in the 4x400 meter relay.
Mathis took third in the women's indoor mile while Henrikson just missed out on scoring points as she finished ninth in the race.
Baker placed fourth individually in the 800-meter run at the indoor championships last season and was joined in the scoring column by returning senior
Lydia Lehmbeck in fifth place.
Senior
Addison Walker finished fifth in the women's triple jump.
Other seniors on the team include
Elaina Gorton,
Kati Schoeneberg and
Cora Stimpson.
The team, under the direction of
Leslie Hardesty and assisted by
Collin Nurenberg, will also feature 13 newcomers on the roster.
The indoor Track & Field season will begin on December 7
th when the Bulldogs travel to the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
The GLVC Championships returns to the ARC at the University of Indianapolis on March 1-2, 2025.
