EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Lewis University scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab a 4-3 win in an elimination game over the Truman Softball team on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs finish the season with a 23-28 overall record.
 
Cassie Smith got things going with a leadoff double in the first and came in to score on a groundout from Emily Wood.
 
Lewis responded with a run in their half of the first. A single and stolen base followed by another hit put runners at second and third with no outs. A sacrifice fly tied the game but the Bulldogs wiggled out of the jam by retiring the next two hitters.
 
The Bulldogs put two on with two outs in the third and Wood came through with an RBI single up the middle to score Smith. Cameryn Patterson was up next and battled a 13-pitch at bat, fouling off 10 straight pitches before flying out to center.
 
It was 2-1 until the fifth when a two-out error allowed the tying run to cross the plate.
 
The Bulldogs retook the lead when Brieanna Klein busted a ball to right center scoring Cali Coombs.  Unfortunately for Truman, the next two hitters struck out leaving runners on base.
 
An error started the bottom of the sixth and following a sacrifice bunt and stolen base, a triple tied the game back up at three. The next batter knocked a single through the left side, which stood as the winning run.
 
Coombs and Wood each collected a pair of hits.
