KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman State senior thrower,
Jacob Morris added more hardware to his mantle by winning the men's Discus for the third straight outdoor season and was named the Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year.
Morris led right out of the gate with an opening mark of 53.94, then improved on that score with a toss of 55.59 in round three. He unleashed a mark of 56.34 in the second round of the finals to secure his third straight championship in the event. The previous record was set in 2017 by Indianapolis' Austin Hogan at 56.24 meters. Kirksville native and Missouri S&T sophomore Owen Fraser was second at 50.79 meters.
Morris moved up the hill to his final event of the meet and grabbed the bronze medal in the Javelin on his final throw. Missouri S&T had the top three spots entering the final throws and Morris went 54.89 to move into third place. He scored 23 of the Bulldogs' 45 team points resulting in a sixth-place team finish.
Other team points were scored by
Hayden Long in the Javelin with a sixth,
Max McMullin in the High Jump, sixth and
Alex Long in the Discus with a seventh.
The women had three individuals score points and had four personal bests set on championship Saturday.
Raina Baker made a late push in the women's 800-meter run but just missed a podium spot with a fourth-place finish and a PR time of 2:16.93.
Lydia Lehmbeck led the first lap of the 800 and placed sixth overall with a time of 2:19.32.
Addison Walker grabbed a pair of points with a seventh-place showing in the Triple Jump. She saved her best for last with a personal best 11.16-meter jump in the sixth and final attempt during the event. Her previous best was 10.86 meters.
Audrey Gilmore was 12
th and
Hailey Derboven finished 13
th with a PR of 9.51 meters.
Vada Moore set a new PR in the High Jump when she cleared 1.47 meters and placed ninth.
The Truman women finished with 21 points and were ninth as a team.
Lewis University won their seventh straight and 14
th overall women's title by cruising to a 52-point win over Southwest Baptist. Missouri S&T claimed their fourth straight men's championship with 43-point victory over Lewis. It was the eighth overall men's championship for the Miners.
