KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Jerry Wollmering, the longest serving Director of Athletics at Truman State University, has announced his resignation from that position.
 
"It has been an honor to serve as the Director of Athletics at Truman State University for the past 25 years," said Wollmering.  "During my time in this role, a lifetime of memories has taken place for me and my family. The support of so many including five university presidents, numerous staff and coaches, hundreds of student-athletes, and countless generous alumni and friends is what makes this place so special.  Thank you, Truman State and the Kirksville community!"
 
Wollmering arrived on the Truman campus in September 1999 and has guided the Bulldog athletics department for 25 years. During that span, Truman State University has been one of the few public institutions of higher education to achieve over a 90% NCAA Division II academic success rate on multiple occasions.
 
Under his watch, the student athletic fee was passed which helped generate the necessary funding to improve the Bulldog athletic facilities. Renovations included lights, turf, track and press box at Stokes Stadium, turf and press boxes at both baseball and softball fields, bleachers, new wood flooring and video boards in Pershing Arena, starting blocks, and improvements to the Pershing Natatorium and resurfacing and fencing at the tennis courts.
 
He initiated and helped the school transition from being a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association charter member to the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2012-2014. As a member of the GLVC, the Bulldogs have earned the league's Sportsmanship Award and several individual teams have been recognized for sportsmanship.
 
Wollmering's coaching staff has produced many athletic successes during the past 25 years. Notably, the women's swimming team won seven Division II national championships, the Bulldog Volleyball team was a two-time national runner-up, Baseball advanced to the Division II World Series in 2015 and Men's Basketball was in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2021. In addition, several teams, if not all programs, went on to postseason competitions with individuals winning national championships in the sports of track and field and wrestling. 
 
Wollmering has served in the NCAA on the Swimming and Diving Championship committee and most recently completed a four-year term on the NCAA Division II Management Council including the last two as Vice Chair.
