KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Non-conference action continues for football, volleyball, and cross country, while the soccer squads continue GLVC play this week iin Truman State Athletics.

FOOTBALL
The Truman State Football Bulldogs (0-2 overall, 0-1 GLVC) head to Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) University (1-1 overall, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) seeking their first win of the season.

The Bulldogs scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to pull away from the Cardinals and notch a 21-7 victory at Stokes Stadium one year ago. Mason Huskey found the end zone for Truman State on a 1-yard touchdown run while Nolan Hair hit Tate Crane on a 14-yard score to away the game. The victory pushed Truman State's record to 3-0 as it opened the 2023 season with a six-game winning streak.

The University of Indianapolis (UINDY) got the best of the visiting Bulldogs, 41-34, in an early GLVC contest this past weekend in Indianapolis. The Purple and White, despite surrendering 476 total yards offense including 319 through the air, kept pressure on the Greyhounds, who somehow found a way to answer each time the Bulldogs would get within four points. Sophomore quarterback Dylan Hair, 17-26 for 246 yards and two touchdowns, found redshirt freshman wide receiver Jackson Overton twice to score  while Overton tallied a third touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone with 12:12 to play in the first half.

VOLLEYBALL
The Bulldog Volleyball team (0-8 overall) will attempt to right the ship when it travels to Bolivar, Mo., to compete in the SBU Invitational.

Action opens Friday against Ft. Hays State (Kan.) University and Southern Baptist University in a non-conference match against the two GLVC schools. The Bulldogs take on Ouachita Baptist University (Ark.) and Missouri Southern State University to finish play.

The Bulldogs have struggled out of the gates, going 0-4 in tournaments at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Ft. Hays State on consecutive weekends, despite taking four opponents - Minnesota State, Mankato; Northern Michigan University; Emporia State (Kan.) University; and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs - to the fifth set.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Truman State Women's Soccer team closed out its four-match homestand to open the season 1-1-2 with a 0-0 tie against UINDY this past Sunday. 

Conference play continues for the Bulldogs at Illinois Springfield Friday before returning to Stokes Stadium and a Sunday match against McKendree. The 1-1-2 Prairies Stars downed William Jewell College (Mo.), 2-0, at Liberty, Mo., to win their first GLVC contest, while McKendree stands at a perfect 5-0. The Bearcats, a 3-2 winner against Rockhurst University (Mo.) to open 1-0 in the GLVC, have outscored their opponents 15-4 in early season competition.

MEN'S SOCCER
Men's Soccer (1-2 overall, 0-1 GLVC) continues its conference schedule at Illinois Springfield (0-2-1 overall, 0-0-1 GLVC) and home against McKendree (4-0 overall, 1-0 GLVC) on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Illinois Springfield played William Jewell to a 1-1 draw September 15 while McKendree scored its first goal against Rockhurst in the 12th minute and never looked back, cruising to a 5-1 victory, also this past Sunday.

After taking down St. Could State (Minn.) University in the season opener at Stokes, the Bulldogs have fallen to Columbia College (Mo.), 0-2, and UINDY, 0-1, on a Greyhound goal in the 83rd minute Sept. 15 at Stokes.

CROSS COUNTRY
Men's and Women's Cross Country heads to Peoria, Ill., for Bradley University's Bradley Invitational Friday, Sept. 20th. It's the first action for the Bulldogs since opening the season at the 9th Annual UIS Prairie Stars Invitational at the University of Illinois Springfield.

The Bulldog women finished second to host Illinois Springfield with Top 10 finishes from senior Cora Stimpson (2 points), junior Kate Yates (4 points), and freshman Clare Starr (9 points). The men's squad, with its third-place finish to Illinois Springfield, were paced by sophomore Gavin Hill (11 points).
