FAYETTE, Iowa - The Truman State Volleyball team lost in five sets to Upper Iowa University in the first Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the season. It was the eighth five-set match the Bulldogs have been involved with this season and the fourth out of the last five matches.

Truman State will hope to turn the tide when they play in the friendly confines of Pershing Arena for the first time this season on Thursday evening when the University of Illinois Springfield visits for a 7 p.m. match.

Set one was tied at 14 each but the Peacocks rattled off five straight points to go up 19-14 and eventually took the opener 25-18. 

Set two had UIU take a 6-4 lead but Truman State scored six straight points to go up 10-6. The Peacocks countered and squared the set at 10 apiece. With Upper Iowa up 13-12, Lily Porter's kill started seven straight points by the Bulldogs and they would level the match 25-20 win.

The Bulldogs trailed 23-21 in set three and scored the final four points to go up 2-1 in the match with a 25-23 set score.

After giving up the first two points of set four, the Peacocks grabbed the momentum with a 9-0 run and cruised to a 25-13 win in the fourth to set up the decider. 

Reaching the halfway point of the set tied at eight each, Upper Iowa four straight points and six of the next seven points to pull out a 15-10 win.

Hannah Hosty (12) and Makayla Way (10) led Truman State in kills with Way credited with seven blocks. Emma Baierl had 23 assists and Creason added 20.
