WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Truman State Women's Basketball (7-13, 4-6) remains on the road this week at Rockhurst (5-12, 3-8) Thursday evening followed by a Saturday afternoon game at William Jewell (5-12, 3-8). In action from one week ago, the Bulldogs handled Lincoln (Mo.) at home, 78-59, Jan. 20, but fell at Quincy (Ill.), 82-69, Jan. 25. 
 
Rockhurst and the 'Dogs squared off in the first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) contest of the season where Truman State downed the Hawks, 82-64, on Nov. 30. Graduate student guard Jordan Cunningham tossed in 25 while sophomore guard Molly Joyce scored 18. The Purple and White followed the Rockhurst win with victories at Southwest Baptist (Mo.) and Drury (Mo.) for an early 2-1 league record
 
The Bulldogs return to Pershing Arena at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, when they play host to Southwest Baptist in the Black Out game.

Men lost to Rockhurst 90-77 Nov. 26 in Kirksville Nov. 26
 
The Bulldog Men's Basketball team (11-7, 5-5) continues a three-game road trip with dates at Rockhurst (13-6, 7-4) Thursday evening and William Jewell (3-13, 3-8) Saturday afternoon following an 80-76 win at Quincy (Ill.) Jan. 25. The victory over the Hawks was the fourth of the previous five for Truman State each of which were decided by four points or fewer.
 
The GLVC season opened in Pershing Arena on Nov. 26 with a 90-77 Rockhurst win over Truman State. Despite success at the charity stripe hitting 29 of 31 free throw attempts, the 'Dogs shot just 38 percent from the field in the loss. Sophomore forward Matt Haefner notched season highs in points (19), went 8-8 from the line, and was 3-5 from behind the arc.
 
The next home game for the Purple and White will be Thursday, Feb. 6, in a 7:30 tilt against Southwest Baptist.

Truman State Track and Field competes in the Central College Dutch Winter Multis and Washburn Open this weekend.
 
Sophomore Vada Moore is slated for the women's pentathlon, which begins at 1 p.m. Friday, while Hayden Long and Justin Moeller will compete in the men's heptathlon, which begins Thursday with the 60 meters, long jump, shot put, and high jump, and concludes Friday at 1:30 with the 60 hurdles, and 1000 meter run.
 
The Washburn Open in Topeka will feature a small contingent of Bulldogs Friday and Saturday. Slated to compete on the women's side include Addie Mathis (1 mile), Lexy Henrickson (1 mile), Phoebe Canatsey (800/mile), and Lydia Lehmbeck (800/mile) one through four in the 4x400 relay, Kati Schoeneberg (3000m), and Raina Baker (600 yards, mile rabbit). Evan Aubuchon (800/mile), Ryan Gustafson (800/mile), Jake Gutzman (3000/5000 meters), and Gavin Hill (3000 meters) will run for Truman State on the men's side.

Bulldog Softball hits the diamond for its first action of the season with four games at the DII Leadoff Classic in Branson, Mo., this weekend.
 
Emporia State, 23-29 and in 14-12 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) from one year ago, kicks things off for Truman State at noon Friday. First day action concludes with the first of three against Great American Conference (GAC) opponents at 4 p.m. against East Central, 21-27, 12-21 GAC in 2024. Saturday opens against Arkansas at Monticello, 23-29, 15-18 GAC in '24, time to be announced, and a 4 p.m. first pitch against Northwestern Oklahoma, 17-33, 7-26 GAC last season.
 
Truman State posted a 23-29 overall mark in 2024 while finishing .500 in conference play at 13-13. Illinois Springfield opens both the home season and GLVC season on Friday, March 7, with a double header scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Kirksville.
