SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - The Truman State Softball team cruised to an 11-4 win in the opener but couldn't complete the sweep, falling in game two 8-3 to St. Cloud (Minn.) State on Sunday.
The Bulldogs overcame a 3-0 deficit to the Huskies as they scored in every inning but the first in tallying the 11 runs on 12 hits.
Emily Wood drilled a two-run home run to pull the Bulldogs to within one in the third and a sacrifice fly by Ryleigh Jones pushed the Bulldogs in front. Nina Fenasci delivered a two-run single in the fifth to double up St. Cloud 8-4.Â
Avaree Taylor, Caragan Baker and Kyle Salyars each collected two hits.
Kaylyn Jones went the distance in the circle for the win.
Wood singled in Cassie Smith to start the ball rolling in game two and after the Huskies tied the game in the second, Michaela Goad knocked a two-run single to score two Bulldogs and a 3-1 lead.
St. Cloud answered with two of their own in the bottom of the fourth and exploded with a five-run fifth inning that proved to be the difference.Â
The Bulldogs (7-6) have six games on the schedule next weekend starting on Friday as they head to the Rosemont Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Illinois. The first game is at 9 a.m. against Purdue Northwest.
