INDIANAPOLIS - Justin Moeller has the overnight lead in the men's heptathlon and the women's distance medley relay team took the silver medal following the first day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Moeller accumulated 2,939 points through the first four events of the heptathlon. He finished third in the 60-meter dash with a personal record (PR) time of 7.30 seconds, first in the long jump (6.74m), second in the shot put with a PR of 12.11m, and won the high jump by clearing 1.99 meters.
Hayden Long set personal bests in three of the four events and sits in second place with 2,818 points. He placed fifth in the dash at 7.39 seconds, second in the long jump at 6.44 meters, first in the shot put at 13.51 meters, and second in the high jump at 1.87 meters.
The two will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run on Sunday.
Vada Moore competed in the women's pentathlon and finished 11th with a personal best of 2,437 points. She set event bests in the 60-meter hurdles (10.53 seconds) and shot put (9.72m). She achieved fourth place in the shot put for her highest event finish.
The women's distance medley relay team of Addie Mathis, Raina Baker, Phoebe Canatsey, and Lexi Henrikson secured the silver medal with a time of 12:03.06.
Destiny Zimdars picked up points with a seventh-place finish in the women's weight throw (16.15m). Leithym Messer earned a fourth-place finish in the men's weight throw with a mark of 16.56m.
The championships will continue tomorrow at the ARC on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
