KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Playing through gusty winds, the Truman State Tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Fort Hays State (Kan.) on Friday at the Truman Tennis Courts. The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with three duals in Iowa.
With winds howling at nearly 30 miles per hour, the conditions were tough for both teams. At number one doubles, Sydney Dial and Nayana Malangi battled before falling 7-5 to the team of Irina Alfonso and Suzana Faucz. The other two doubles matches went to the Tigers by 6-1 scores.
Fort Hays claimed five singles matches in straight sets. Abbi Worster won the first set at number six singles by a 6-3 score but was forced into a super tiebreaker after falling 6-4 in set two. The tiebreaker fell to Fort Hays by a 10-6 tally.
The Bulldogs will face Loras College in Dubuque next Friday before taking on Cornell and Coe Colleges on Saturday, as lead-ins to conference play beginning on April 11.
