KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Truman State Softball team let a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games slip away on Saturday as they lost 3-2 and 2-0 to Rockhurst. The Bulldogs return to the diamond on Sunday against William Jewell.
The Hawks grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After having runners stranded in scoring position in both the third and fourth innings, Cassie Smith knocked a clutch 2-run triple in the fifth to put the Bulldogs up 2-1.
A strikeout-caught stealing double play squashed the Bulldogs' momentum in the sixth, and Rockhurst swung the tide with a pair of extra-base hits, the second coming with two outs to tie the game.
A leadoff single was erased on a caught stealing in Truman's seventh, and the first batter for Rockhurst in their half walked it off with a solo home run to right-center field.
Rockhurst scored both of their runs on only three hits in the nightcap.
A solo shot in the third made it 1-0.
Truman had runners at second and third in the fourth, but a lineout double play ended the threat.
In the sixth, a steal of home following a walk and a hit gave Rockhurst the insurance run.
Avaree Taylor led off the seventh with a double but was left stranded.
The Bulldogs fall to 5-7 in conference play, while Rockhurst improves their league record to 9-7.
