KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -  The Truman State Tennis team celebrated Senior Day and celebrated a conference victory as they downed William Jewell 5-2 on Saturday.

The Cardinals grabbed the doubles point with narrow wins at number one and two. At number one, Sydney Dial and Malangi Nayana were edged out 7-6 (7-1) while at number two, the seniors Abbi Worster and Akansha Negi were defeated 7-5.

Jewell was open at number six so the team score was tied at one each.

Mary Grace Seymore gave Truman the lead with her blanking of the Cardinal player at number five singles 6-0, 6-0 and Malangi won 6-4, 6-1 at number two for a 3-1 Bulldog lead.

William Jewell won number four to tighten things up but Dial clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at one. 

The final match was senior Negi and she was able to gut out a three-set win. She lost the first 7-5 but forced the tie break with a 6-2 win in two. She won 7-6 (7-3) in the third to take the final point.

It was the first GLVC win by the Bulldogs since 2021, breaking a 19-match streak.

The Bulldogs will play their third match in three days as they travel to Illinois College on Sunday,
