DES MOINES – Justin Moeller claimed the win in the men's pole vault as the Truman State Track & Field teams competed in both the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Meet at Simpson (Iowa) College over the weekend.
 
Moeller and Wartburg (Iowa) senior Carson Collet each cleared 4.50 meters to share the victory in the event and were well ahead of third place Griffin Kimbrel of Saint Louis University at 4.35 meters. Moeller will next compete in the decathlon at the Great Lakes Valley Conference championships next weekend where he is ranked second on the performance list heading into the meet.
 
Max McMullin matched his personal best by clearing 1.91 meters in the high jump and took the silver medal in the event.
 
Other top ten finishes on the men's side were Alex Long in the Discus in fourth, Leithym Messer in the Hammer Throw in fourth and Justin McKim in the Shot Put in eighth. Long and Messer each achieved PRs in their respective events.
 
On the ladies' side, Kaela Perez was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a best time of 1:06.80. Esme Aubuchon was seventh in the high jump at 1.50 meters and Hailey Derboven placed eighth in the triple jump.
 
Over at the Drake Relays, the women's 4x800 relay team of Phoebe Canatsey, Carmen Gentilla, Madeline Sims and Claire Stahr finished ninth with a time of 9:24.30. Hayden Long and Aiden Hays both threw in the men's javelin with Long placing fourth with his first throw going 57.87 meters.
 
Next weekend the teams will head to Romeoville, Illinois and the campus of Lewis University for the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The multi-events will begin on Thursday.
