KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - It was an eventful weekend for Truman State Track & Field, as a school record was broken again and two Bulldogs won events with personal bests at "Last Chance" meets. Addie Mathis took three seconds off her own record in the 1500-meter run, while Alex Long (Discus) and Justin McKim (Shot Put) set personal bests in winning their respective events.
Mathis competed at the University of Arkansas Twilight Meet in Fayetteville and ran 4:25.93 in her final race as a collegiate runner. Her previous record, set in California, was 4:28.52. This time meets an NCAA provisional standard, and she ranks 30th in Division II for the event.
Mathis will leave Truman State as the record holder in the indoor 800-meter run, outdoor 800-meter run, and 1500-meter run, as well as a member of the indoor Distance Medley Relay squad.
The throwers competed at the UNK Loper Twilight Meet in Kearney, Nebraska. Alex Long achieved a 48.26-meter toss on his final attempt to set a new personal record and win the men's discus throw. His previous best was 47.82 meters. Justin McKim also needed his final attempt to win the shot put, improving his personal record to 15.44 meters from 15.13 meters.
Hayden Long surpassed 60 meters again in the javelin but did not beat his personal best. He launched the implement 60.66 meters for sixth place. Aidan Hays placed 11th with a throw of 52.19 meters.
