Moeller Soars To All-America Status With Big Second Day At NCAA Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. — Justin Moeller earned his second All-America honor of the season, vaulting to seventh place with four personal bests on the second day of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Moeller started strong with a personal record (PR) in the 100-meter hurdles, running 14.73 seconds to place fourth in the event and score 882 points, the most in a single event during the decathlon.

In the discus, he threw 34.69 meters for a PR and 557 points.

He then took second in the pole vault, with three heights coming down to his third attempt before clearing. He cleared 4.30 meters on his third try and 4.40 meters on his final attempt. He cleared 4.50 meters on his first try and 4.60 meters on his second. He cleared 4.70 meters on his first attempt but needed his third and final attempt to clear a PR height of 4.90 meters, securing second place and 880 points.

In the javelin, he achieved a PR of 53.68 meters, good for fifth place and 643 points.

In the final event, Moeller ran 5:00.31 to finish sixth, adding 558 points for a grand total of 7,204 points, earning seventh place and an All-America podium spot.

He started day two in 10th position.

His 7,204 points were a personal best, just 124 points shy of the school record set by Don Albritton in 1972.

Moeller previously earned All-America honors in the indoor season by placing eighth in the men's heptathlon.
