KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Kevin White, Associate Athletics Director/Director of Athletics Communication for Truman State, will retire ahead of the 2025-26 academic year after more than three decades as a student and staff member at the University.
 
"Kevin and I worked on many projects and events together over 25 years," said former Truman State Director of Athletics Jerry Wollmering. "I didn't have to worry about any event being ready to go from his area and always enjoyed our post-game discussions after the stadium and gym emptied."
 
White began his association with Truman State Athletics working in the Sports Information office while earning a degree in Communications-Journalism from 1993-96. He returned to Truman State as Assistant to the Athletics Director in August, 1996, having been hired by former Athletics Director Walt Ryle, then returned to communications in 2004 where he remained through his retirement.  By his count, White attended nearly 3,000 Truman State home events writing upwards of 10,000 athletics stories during his time at the helm.
 
"His expertise as we changed conferences, transitioned to digital media and entered the streaming era was invaluable," Wollmering continued. "We put out a lot of fires together along the way and had fun doing it!"

"The press box and media coverage were always set with Kevin," said Truman State Baseball Head Coach Dan Davis. "Rosters, P.A., broadcasts, etc., I could always count on Kevin to be prepared and ready to go when the Bulldogs were between the lines."
 
White, just the third Sports Information Director in Truman State history, was a student assistant for each of his predecessors in Bulldog Hall of Fame members William Cable and Melissa Ware. Charged with the media relations responsibilities for the Bulldogs, White and Truman State Hall of Fame broadcasters Brad Boyer and Hank Janssen rode together to games across many seasons. 
 
"I want to congratulate Kevin White on an outstanding career at Truman State University and wish him well in this next chapter of his life," said Boyer of NEMO Pressbox. "Our paths connected as he was graduating from Truman and I started my first year broadcasting Bulldog football and basketball 30 years ago. Truman has been blessed with a terrific sports information department going back to CoSIDA Hall of Famer Bill Cable. My transition from working with Melissa Ware to alongside Kevin was seamless. His assistance in my game preparation and my partner Hank Janssen's decades of covering the Bulldogs has made my job so much easier."

 

"Kevin provided continuous exemplary SID work for more than 20 years building on the legacy of Bill Cable and Melissa Ware," said Janssen. "Bill created Sports Information at the University in the late 1960s tutoring Melissa to take over in 1995. Kevin replaced Melissa in 2004; all three shared one quality. They cared deeply for the athletes, coaches, and their school. We had fun finishing our stay in the MIAA then exploring new territory and colleges in the GLVC with my radio colleague Brad Boyer."

A member of both the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and its successor, the College Sports Communicators (CSC), White presented at the 2020 CoSIDA Convention and was a mentor to new SIDs navigating their roles.
