KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman State women's basketball team defeated Missouri S&T 66-58 at Pershing Arena on Thursday night, improving to 14-9 overall and 11-4 in conference play. The Miners fell to 8-13 and 4-11.
The game was tied 17-17 at the end of the first quarter before Truman gradually took control. The Bulldogs led 33-32 at halftime and used a dominant third quarter to build a comfortable cushion.
Truman's offense found its rhythm in the third period, outscoring Missouri S&T 22-16 to take a 55-48 lead into the fourth quarter. McCallop started the scoring with a jumper at 7:42 to make it 37-32. Ott then hit a three-pointer at 7:10 that gave the Bulldogs a 40-32 advantage. White added a layup at 6:32, assisted by McCallop, to make it 42-35.
The Bulldogs continued to extend their lead in the third. Odem converted two free throws at 5:50 to push the lead to 44-37. White's three-pointer at 4:33 gave Truman a 47-40 edge, and Ott made a layup at 3:19 to make it 49-40. Rogers added a layup at 1:30 to put the Bulldogs up 51-44.
Ott was instrumental throughout the quarter, hitting two free throws at 0:53 to make it 53-46 and two more at 0:19 to build the lead to 55-48 entering the fourth.
Missouri S&T made several runs to try to get back in the game. In the fourth quarter, Benassi's layup at 8:19 cut the deficit to 56-51. However, Truman responded decisively. Chambers made a free throw at 8:36 to make it 56-49, and McCallop's driving layup at 1:10 extended the lead to 65-55 to put the game away.
Ott led the Bulldogs with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and added 9 rebounds. McCallop finished with 15 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. White contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Avery Rausch added 13 points off the bench.
For Missouri S&T, Ava McCulla led all scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Norah Gum added 13 points, while Macy Marraccini contributed 8 points.
Truman shot 39.6% from the field (21-of-53), including 27.3% from three-point range (6-of-22), and 69.2% from the free-throw line (18-of-26). The Miners shot 37.5% overall (24-of-64), just 10.0% from beyond the arc (2-of-20), and 66.7% from the line (8-of-12).
The Bulldogs dominated in the paint, outscoring Missouri S&T 26-44, and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 10 points off 16 Miner turnovers.
